[Gpdd] Announcement: Pickles and Nefer

In the 10 years I've been on GPDD, I've spoken often about my herd, and how 3 special boys arrived one morning back in 2000. We lost Michael almost 2 years ago, and Gabriel left us a few weeks back. That left me with the little fellow I always thought was the nicest looking piggie I've had the honor to love. I always loved Pickles because he was such a tough, independent, fiesty boy. Pickles always was telling us "I'm the boss here!" He would suqirm and complain if I picked him up for cuddling, that is, until he hurt his foot, and the cuddling reassured him. Nothing made me happier at the time than when he complained when I picked him up again, because I knew my little boy was back.

When we lost his brother Gabriel, I adopted a new boy quickly because he got so depressed being alone that he almost died of loneliness, literally after his brother Michael left. For all his toughness, Pickles loved his brothers.

He and Gabriel now rest beside each other, and once a week, I make it a point to walk over and tell them I miss them. I don't know where they are now or if they hear me, but I want to make sure they know they aren't forgotten.

A few weeks back, my dear Cleo- the smartest piggies I ever saw- had crossed the bridge. Her roomie Nefer didn't want to share a home with our Minuit, so Nefer stayed alone. Recently I noticed she wasn't eating and barely drinking, and yesterday morning I found her in her pigloo, clearly having passed very shortly before.

If Pickles was the most handsome of the piggies I've had the honor to share my home with, Nefer was the classiest. She was all white, except with a stylish swtach of black by the right eye. She would tease Cleo, but never lost her temper with Cleo. Her patience and affection for Cleo was astonishingly clear. Like all who share the light with a star, Nefer never was the center of things. But my love for her and respect for her was strong, and the loss I feel at having said goodbye to her is great. There was great beauty in her soul, just as there was in her appearance.

When they were young, Nefer would move the ladder to the second floor of their apartment, so that both had to hop up for any food. But like Cleo, Nefer learned easily that asking for help would bring David running. Nefer loved to be cuddled, and that warm, beautiful little lady will be missed.

It wasn't that long ago that I had 14 of these wondrous lives to keep me comfy, and now I have but 3. Life has been tough over the past couple of years, but I have always had a beautiful angel waiting for a hug. I miss everyone that is gone- Nefer, Pickles, Michael, Gabriel, Droopy, Dr. Pepper, Cleo, Cinder, Blizzard, Gizmo... and the many others I have been blessed with (if I listed them all, I'd be here typing all night.) If only people were more like them...

David, with Snickers, Treasure, and Minuit
