Dear Liz and family,
 
There are a few of us on the digest that use shredded newspapers.  I  have 
used this method for about 6 months now with great success.  I do not  use any 
shaving with it because wood shavings can potentially carry mites.   I have 
also read that newspaper printers no longer use lead on the color pages,  so I 
don't worry about that at all, and have never had a problem.  I have  saved a 
ton of money not having to buy carefresh anymore.  Good luck!
