I too am a great fan of boars. And Cinnamon's sad story brought back many
memories of senior boar bath time at Penny Giggle Farm. I know you all know
about how males can get impacted and that frequent cleansings are usually
needed. Some boars get this more than others, but the penis also needs care
on a regular basis. I know it doesn't sound pleasant, but on a monthly
schedule adjusted to each boars needs, I get them ready for bath time by
trimming hair and nails, clean ears, and then turn my attention southward.
I would have some vegetable oil handy and gently extrude the penis by
pushing back at the base, if you meet any resistance at all gently apply
some oil, and work your way back until the penis is fully extended. Clean
off the dried white mucus by gently washing and rubbing the oil in until all
is clean and unstuck. I also gently apply a little pressure to extrude any
contents of the penis and I often found a mucus plug in some degree of
dryness. If you run into any thing really stuck you may need to visit the
vet but usually a gentle application of oil gets every thing working
smoothly.
Then I would use Q-Tips to clean their anal fold, again using oil as the
cleaning agent. Also I clip off the hair around the grease gland and apply a
little shampoo as a pre wash.
Then pop him into his bath and while he is shampooed up I would wash out the
fold with a little extra shampoo.
Then after a rinse and a towel dry its off to the blow dryer. I would
double check the ears (oil and Q-Tip pre- bath) adjust the hair cut and then
off to impress their cage mate.
