Well, a couple of weeks ago, we added a new piggie to our menagerie. Ivory
is a female about a year to a year and a half old and we received her from a
family who the daughter had lost interest in her last year's Christmas
present, and the mom didn't want the responsibility of taking care of her. She is
a very sweet young lady, although we have not been able to successfully
introduce her to Hermione yet, but we are taking it slowly. Anyway, my youngest
who is almost 3 has been so sad since all of his sisters are in school all
day, so we have made a big deal out of him "helping" me feed the piggies in the
morning. They get some pellets, some hay, and a veggie. The other morning
we forgot to check water bottles (they are blue and hard to see the water
level on them for some reason) and we noticed that Ivory was wheeking like mad at
us every time we passed the cage. I checked her out - nothing seemed to be
wrong with her, so we brought her into the living room for some floor time,
thinking she was just lonely. Well, she headed off to the girls' bedroom and
stood at the foot of the dresser wheeking away, so I put her back. Then, she
jumped up and put her paws on the cage walls directly beside the water
bottle, got down, chattered the nozzle with her teeth and got back up. I checked
the water bottle, and sure enough it was almost empty. Duncan and I took it
and filled it up and when we put it back, she was purring at us.
Now, Hermione, we have had a little bit longer, and my 11 year old spends
lots of time with her. She has taught her to "say please" when she wants a
treat, or to get down on the floor. It is really cute. 'Mione also ia very
persistent when she feels she is being ignored or not shown the proper attention
- she will push and nudge you if she is in your lap and you have stopped
petting her, and will SIT on your foot if she is on the floor and you are
watching TV and NOT her, lol.
They are the coolest little buddies we have ever had!!
