More info on Project Halo:

90,000 square miles along the U.S. Gulf Coast have been declared
disaster areas. An estimated 400,000 people have been evacuated or
forced to flee from their homes. Imagine how many animals have been
lost, injured, or killed by this devastating storm. We will never
know. There may be hundreds of animals still alive and desperately
needing help.

Project HALO, a non-profit animal rescue organization in North
Carolina, is coordinating a trip to help displaced and injured
animals affected by Hurricane Katrina. Joining Project HALO will be
the South Carolina Guinea Pig rescue, a privately run guinea pig
rescue that has rehomed over 130 guinea pigs since opening in 2004.
These organizations need your assistance if they are to help the
animals survive and hopefully, some of them will return to their
owners. Many will not -- so they desperately need donations.

You can donate directly to the South Carolina Guinea Pig rescue using
their paypal address: scgpr1 at yahoo.com. Donations sent to this fund
will be used directly to help small animals affected by Katrina.

For those of you who would like to donate but need a tax receipt, you
can read about the rescue efforts and Project HALO's wish list here:
Project: HALO Shelter & Sanctuary

HSUS is also coordinating an animal rescue effort in areas affected
by Katrina. You can donate to their disaster relief fund here:
Disaster Relieve Fund.
