Martha,
I use towels as bedding for my piggies
and I wrote about it a while back, so
this is what I wrote:

"...I keep my spoiled rotten piggies on towels
and I Love it! In their 4x2 C&C cage, I use
those big, oversized towels. I put down
6 layers of towels and I change the top 2
layers every 12 hours. I completely change
all 6 layers once a wheeeeek. Since they
are free-range, I also keep towels under
the dining room table, in their tents,
Cuddle Cups, and I have a sheet of coroplast
under our bed with 3 layers of towels on it
for Butterscotch (he sleeps under our bed at
night). Oh, and if you're wondering why I
keep the coroplast under there, it's because
wheee have a King size and I'm getting too
old to be crawling under beds--ha ha! So, I
just pull the coroplast sheet out and change
the top layer of towels once a day and I do
a full change once a wheeeeek.

Needless to say, in our household, wheeeeee
do a ton of towel laundry! ha ha! I buy
an environment-friendly liquid laundry
detergent called 'Seventh Generation' and
wash their towels in that. It's $Expensive$,
but the cheapest place I could find it is
Drugstore.com.

The only downside is that it's a lot of
work. In the morning, it takes me about
30 minutes to change the towels, feed 'em,
etc. At night, I spend about 1 hour changing
the towels, shaking out the hay, refilling
the water bottles, etc. And the whole time,
Brownie Bear is watching me--making sure
I'm doing it Right. And that Butterscotch
will be running around in between me and the
cage being silly and telling me to 'Hurry Up!'
ha ha"

    Love 'n Wheeeeeeeeeeeps,
      Leah...Slave to Brownie Bear &
                        Butterscotch :-)

"...So since the herd has expanded my husband, who
enjoys them just as much, has built them a new 6 x
3 1/2 palace. As the size is a bit daunting for
bedding
I am shifting to the towel method. I'd love to hear
from other that also bed their piggies with towels
and find out their routine, how many they use etc.
Please feel free to contact me through the digest or
directly at marthac at cogeco.ca..."
