Welcome to our wonderful family Marie-Louise!  
You will find lots of support and great advice from some very knowledgeable  
piggie slaves.  Newspapers are great for piggies!  What I do is layer  
newspapers on the cage floor, then add a layer of shredded newspaper, and lots  of 
it, then I layer some hay.   My piggies like to play with the  paper, and I do 
not have a problem with them eating it.  Newspaper is  generally cheap, and 
plentiful.  The only drawback to it is that it is not  always absorbent, and you 
will need to change it every 3-4 days depending on how  thick you layer it.
