Ms Martin.  We on the Guinea Pig Daily Digest were given your name as a person to contact so I am sending you a copy of a letter I wrote to Ms Fears, your editor,  on the subject of Guinea Pigs and the article on pets in your magazine.  I find it incomprehensible that your magazine is so large that one department does not talk to another especially when a glaring and dangerous error has been made.  I was insulted by the auto response I received from Ms Fears as I know that her department will do nothing.  I'm sure you will hear from other Digesters as this is a serious issue.  There is enough animal cruelty in this world without a supposedly responsible magazine adding to it.
   
  I wrote to your magazine when the article first came out and have yet to receive any kind of acknowledgement or see any letters printed or retractions on your part.  I am serious when I say I have bought my last Family Circle magazine and will discourage everyone I see from buying it as well.

  I am writing to you directly as e mails to your response address seems to generate no response.  I can't believe the shoddy research as well as dangerous advice that was done in your recent article on pets that included guinea pigs.
   
  Guinea Pigs are not simple, throw away pets.  They have very specific needs and, as a matter of fact, do not make good pets for small children as children tend to be too rough for their small, fine bones.  The use of a wheel or plastic ball is NOT for guinea pigs.  Their spines do NOT bend backwards and this can cause very serious injury to the guinea pig!
   
  Until now, I've always assumed that your magazine had a certain amount of integrity but since the error in your article, no retraction and no publication of letters pointing any of this out in your most recent edition, I can only assume that this is not so.  I have bought my last Family Circle magazine and fully intend to tell anyone else I know who buys it to stop as not only is your research shoddy but your response to reader concerns is non-existant.
