Kay-
Thanks for taking the time to list all the possibilities you
thought of in trying to figure out this mystery. As it
turns out, these little guys have left a valuable legacy
here, as we are all learning some important lessons
in trying to figure out what went wrong.
We should all make note of these things you list, I
will save it to a file under Health for the piggies. It
seems that when a situation arises, we can't always
immediately recall what we've learned previously, so
it's good to save notes (and have someone with some
experience in the matter to call on).
When we lost Hotshot last year, the nearest we could
tell was that he had eaten a bit of contaminated grass.
It looked clean, and they all ate it. But apparently just
a tiny bit of something from a bird or something was
on a piece he ate. Telltale signs were the diarrhea,
and then not eating. Sadly, our efforts were too little
and too late to save him, but this is the kind of thing
we must share to help others avoid it. Now, if the OP's
get any grass or clover from outside, it's carefully
checked and washed thoroughly. But, as you note,
contaminants can reach them in other ways, as well.
We are still feeling the effects from the terrrible heat
we've endured this summer, losing some of our dear
family, some still not 100% yet. I know the heat has
really affected me, and I can do something about it.
We'll have to pray that the worst is past, and that
we'll all get through it now.
Thanks again - hoping this is figured out soon and
that no more piggies depart for the Bridge!
