[Gpdd] BEHAVIOR-guinea pig doesn't squeak

My husband and I adopted Samsen from a shelter about 3 months ago. He was a child's pet and ended up at the shelter when the family got a puppy and the child no longer paid attention to him. He's about 3 years old. He's such a lovebug and we adore him. But he does, or doesn't, do some odd things. He is very quiet and hardly every squeaks. I've only really heard him squeak when he got a shot at the vets. Once in a while he'll squeak a little but it's so quiet that you only hear it when your holding him. He doesn't even make a sound for treats or veggies. Instead, he begs by standing on the edge of his food bowl and biting the bars of his cage. I am just wondering if this quietness is normal for some guinea pigs or if it's a sign of something else. Also, I wanted to know if guinea pigs close their eyes when they sleep? I don't think I've ever seen Samsen close his eyes. Even when he's all stretched out in his cage. Maybe he's just an oddball! Any feed back would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
