  Jennifer,

I have had a few pigs that were "quiet"...and then I've had some who more than make up for their quiet bretheren! Pigs are like people--some are more talkative than others. Your piggy is obviously interested in food, which is a good sign. The time to worry about a quiet pig is if they are normally noisy and suddenly sit around quiet and not eating, or if they sit hunched up in a corner. Those are signs of an injury or illness.

As for closing their eyes when they sleep--most pigs don't. Being prey animals, they have to "sleep with one eye open", so to speak. I have only ever had two pigs who have completely closed their eyes (and this only occasionally) when they slept. What's really freaky is to see them in whatever piggy version of dream sleep there is: their eyes roll around just like a person in REM sleep, except their eyes are open when they do it.

  Hope this helps,
-Stacy and the very noisy Squee Squad
