Thank you to everyone who gave me advice as to what to do about Carla’s
hair loss. I took her to her vet that specializes in exotics and has
done many successful surgeries on my own cavies. He could not find any
ovarian cysts. The baldness comes and goes and there are no signs of
fungus or mites, so he feels that it is definitely a hormonal problem.
At this time her hair is growing back. She is happy and eating well.
Since birth she has suffered from seizures whenever she gets too excited
or scared like when she was being examined by the vet. He told me that
for a 5 years old female with cataracts and seizures that she is doing
very well. That there is no reason to do surgery because currently she
does not have any cysts and the risk of her dying of one of her seizures
pre-operatively is very high. Her brother died of a seizure when he was
8 days old. So all is well for now. She even seems to like the attention
when I put nappy cream on her bald spot to protect her delicate skin.

Cheers, Ann
