Hi All,
I just wanted to update you on the message my sister posted this weekend.
She posted a message about our new houseguest, the little bird bucky (little
parrot, budgy?,agapornis). In advance I decided to give them separate floor
time, well in practise this turned out to be pretty hard. My sisters message
was a direct consequence of a very distressed text message to ask for help.
Why is it so hard then, you might wonder. Well i didn't expect that they all
would behave like this. when either one is out of the cage the other ones
think "why is he/she out and not me?". and they start squeeking very loudly
and sadly. It really pains me to see them like this.(I really am a
slave...:-S)
But I guess that I have to stay strong and keep them separated. And
hopefully they will just have to get used to it (it's just three weeks:-S ).
Especially since the bird is like a little kid, he is very demanding and can
be very jealous (he hates the computermouse, remote controls and my mobile
phone, he thinks that they get far too much attention and he lets me know
this by biting my fingers and chewing off buttons). On his behalf though, he
is also very sweet, very social and loves to cuddle (we used to live in the
same house when i was a student, every afternoon he would fly in for some
snacks, a cuddle and we'd watch some television together). But chances are
that he will get jealous of the piggies. And since yaya is so interested in
him and expects no harm.. i would not be able to forgive myself if anything
happened.
Btw the jealousy is also a bit funny, the bird wants to eat everything my
piggies eat, so when i'm feeding my girls cicory (witloof) he wants some.
When he takes a bite you can see him thinking "yuk" but he keeps eating it,
just because they do.
Btw I'm posting this to enforce my self. If i promise you all, then i have
an extra reason to stay strong. (besides the what-if-doomscenarios). If
there are any people with birds and possible tips they still are very
welcome! Because I love them all (piggies a bit more) and if there is
anything i can do to make it better I will definately consider it.
