[Gpdd] Care - Water and veggies

This has already received many comments, but I will add mine as well. After all,
this is a very important topic this time of year. For a pig that is used to drinking
from a bottle, then suddenly stops, I wonder what the cause may be. But the
main thing, of course, is to be sure she remains hydrated. And I agree, if she
seems ok otherwise, she apparently is getting water from another source. Likely
veggies, unless the roof is leaking!
Over the years, I've found anytime I meet someone and the subject of guinea pigs
comes up, as it often does (I'm frequently now introduced to people as "the Guinea
Pig Lady", not a bad title), they always seem to have a guinea pig story, if only
"I had a guinea pig when I was a child, and . . .". Some of the more interesting
have been those who actually raised them for the govt research labs (I know!)
back in the 40's. Of course, they fell in love with them and still have a warm spot
in their hearts for them. Anyway, one gentleman (who, by the way, is a very highly
respected Rabbit Person today) told me about hauling great quantities of lettuce
trimmings out of the back of the local grocery, loaded into his Cadillac (required
in his job as a realtor then), for his piggies. He said he got some odd looks.
But he said that back then he never gave the piggies water, just washed the lettuce
well and gave it to them wet, and they did fine. Another friend told a similar story,
his piggies were 'free range' in part of his house, also receiving piles of wet lettuce.
(If you live in Illinois, you may know these gentlemen!)
I love the idea of the frozen carrot juice cubes - that's one thing the OP's have
not tried . . . yet! And the cucumber feasts - sounds like all they needed was a
spot of tea - how British! ;-) And I love the idea of the tubing on the end of the
syringe, too. I'm always replacing syringes and med. droppers because some
greedy little pig grabs onto it and pulls until the end is chewed up. We'll add
  some tubing!
Speaking of the UK - I'm so envious of you Brits with your Cambridge Cavy Trust!
I really wish we could organize something similar here in the States. We could
even name it for Peter Gurney. It would take a great amount of work, but then, we
have a great amount of talent in our group . . .
One more thing - I'll go ahead and squeeze this in here - Leah- sounds like you've
got it made with BS! With the OP's I've found that by the time an "ow-ie" gets to
that point, it is healed up in no time. We're very glad to hear that all went so well
with the Boy. Be sure to give him and that ole Brownie Bear a big hug from the OP's!
