Hi Lydia,
First of all, your megan is such a cute girl ;-). I think she is really
pretty.. :-)
Our Lotje and many rexpiggies from people i know (and also texel and teddy)
tend to have dry skin. We like to use the products from gorgeous guinea's. (
http://www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk/products.html )
We use lavender shampoo on lotje and sometimes an (manuka) oil soak. we only
use the oil soak when she has a lot of flakes in her fur. It really helps
and it makes combing her much easier. Combing is good anyway if you have
problems, the skin gets so dry because the fur is so thick, but since megan
is combed for the pigture i guess you already know that. They have different
kinds of oil soaks. You can also just use neem oil, but since you don't like
the smell these are a few other options. Or maybe it gives you ideas to try
other things? I don't know where you live but the site is from the uk. (The
original idea for using oil soaks came from peter gurney and they have
adapted and added to his recipes...so maybe there is something out there on
his site? ) I don't know how easy ordering is. if you happen to be dutch (i
guess not) i have another site.
Okay, at the risk of sounding too much as a commercial, the shampoo lasts a
long way, you just need a few drops.
Okay, sorry for the spam ;-)
Ahem.. about how to use neem oil, i guess that it's the same with our manuka
oil and when we use it we apply it in her fur, sometimes just with a bit on
our finger tips or sometimes with a little syringe. especially when the fur
is really thick, it helps to get closer to the skin. Don't use too much!! It
is just not neccesary and it's harder to get it out of her fur (don't make
her look like a deep fried piggy). When we're finished oilsoaking her, we
just wait for at least an hour and then we wash her.
Hope it helps or gives you some ideas.
