Hi all,
first of all, anne, lisa and Jo Ann, thank you for responding (i didn't
recieve a gpdd this weekend so i hope i've got everyone who had advice). you
turned out to be right. jan had an abscess. yesterday when we got home, i
picked jan up and noticed his abscess had opened. Me and my sister cleaned
it the best we could (it was really smelly :-S, i think i will not eat
mayonaise any time soon because it looked so similar).he was such a good
boy. He didn't wheek or anything. And i can imagine it should be painful.
And this morning we took him to the vet. She put antibiotics in the former
abscess. And now i have to keep it open and flush it for a few days(and he's
still on antibiotics).
lots of cuddles and wheeks
Janneke and (strangly still) good mood jan and nurse Suus (suus is keeping
him company now in a more hygienic towel covered cage. She almost demanded
to be let in to take care of her man.I don't argue with that, he has been
eating a lot better since he has company and suus is our cleanest piggy. She
also goes with him to the vet, since she is miserable and worried when jan
goes away without her.) and ofcourse the rest of the winky girls!

> Well, Wed. Molly & I went to the vet for her "well piggie check". We
>learned some interesting things about our new girl! 1st she is not 2 years
>old. The vet showed me how, by looking at her teeth, you can tell how old a
>piggie is. She is app. 6-8 months old! Big difference from 2!!! She also
>unfortunately has "poor eyesight at best", as he put it. SHe is not
>completely blind, but at some point he determined that she has suffered a
>"trauma to the head". So that explains why she likes to be in small spaces
>& why she is always smelling everything. She just sniffs & sniffs all the
>time! He also said that's why she bobs her head & seems a little off kilter
>sometimes. Also that's why she totally freaked out when I cleaned her cage
>last week. How do we take care of a mostly blind piggie? Is there anything
>special we can do to help make life easier for her?
> She is coming around ok. She does odd things like only pooing & peeing
>in 1 corner & she sleeps with her eyes closed, which is unusual for a
>piggie isn't it? We like her alot though, & just want to make life easier
>for her. She had a rough start. The vet gave us some drops to put on her
>head wounds to heal them up & they seem to be healing well. She weighs
>1lb.11oz. which the vet said is normal since she is a female & for her age.
>Albert weighed twice that! She is our little neat freak piggie! We're very
>attahced to her already!
>
>***JAIME***, Molly the new pig in town! & Albert always in my heart.
