Hi Elli

I am so sorry that Caramel passed away. You did take
him to the vet so I would not be too hard on yourself.


If he had pneumonia or an upper respiratory, you vet
certainly should have been able to tell. 
Four years old is elderly in guinea pigs
unfortunately. He could have had congestive heart
failure. They have very labored breathing with CHF. I
have had several older pigs with this. I had one that
had it at only one year old. They do stop eating when
the fluid starts to build up in their lungs and
surrounding areas.

If Carmel had pneumonia, you would have been able to
hear a clicking sound when he was breathing. The white
in the eye may have just been where he did not feel
like cleaning the milky stuff out that they usually
clean their eyes and head up with. They are very tired
with CHF too.

I have an older female with CHF right now that leaves
white stuff on her eyes. I have to clean it out when I
give her the duiril to get the fluid out of her lungs.


Again, I am sorry for your loss. I guess sometimes it
is just their time to go. It is always hard to deal
with loss.
