In my professional opinion, almost any test for
parasites is either POSITIVE or NONE SEEN, but not
negative. (In fact, in the US, many of the major
laboratories are switching their reporting of results
to this method, so its not just me!) That is why so
many veterinarians will treat for parasites even when
they are not found, or will request multiple scrapings
or multiple fecal tests, etc.

The only tests that are more sensitive would be blood
tests, like the antibody test for the protozoa
Giardia.

I'm not certain, but I thought I read somewhere that
skin scrapings do not always show when mites are
present (I could be wrong though, maybe some 
of the others can tell us?).
