Stacy,

I did not read the original post but rather than going out and getting a nebulizer have him write you a prescription for an inhaler (albuterol), get a plastic ontainer large enough for the piggy to fit and cut a hole in the top to fit the inhaler, put the pig in and they usually get two squirts, spaced out about a minute apart.

The fish tank would have to be sort of air tight for them to get the full effects of the medicine and for it to not go and dissipate away. There is no dilution factor because the air dissipates it. I think the inhaler method works just as well, is much more cost effective and is easier on both you and the pig. It is obviously up to you.

I am currently using this inhaler method with a GP whose lung is consolidated with possibly a nasty pneumonia (we have also used this method with success on a degu). Dafnee needs another test on Tuesday to rule some other things out. She is also on Bactim and Baytril, benadryl, fleece bedding, hay cybes instead of real hay, to keep any sort of dust or contaminant away from her. I change the fleece twice a day and shake it out between changings.

Right now our biggest problem is fighting her weight loss. She eats but canot seem to maintain weight. She is 16 months old and weighs 600 g. I am trying everything possible to keep Dafnee going.

So good luck with the breathing treatments. They do help. Steaming helps too. Putting them in the bathroom with you when you take a hot shower. Just make sure their cage is covered when you take them out and they have something to snuggle in so they don't get chilled...

Good luck...
