Susi asked about the method of using charcoal to counteract poisoning.

Have a look at Peter Gurney's site - www.petergurney.com - for those who do not know the address.

In his A-Z of Guinea Pig Health and his Health Pages the use of charcoal is explained under P for Poisoning in both sections.

I have thankfully never needed to do this but you never know what is around the corner and it is a good skill to know just in case.

I was thinking about the late, great Peter with regard to the rotten vets that we have encountered this week. He used to have a Vetwatch section on his website to which you could post recommendations of good vets ( mine was on there ) and could name and shame the bad ones. You could email him for a list of the good ones in your area. This caused so much trouble with the RCVS and he received so much hate mail and spam that he had to close it down.

I hope that we don't have any RCVS ( or other countries' equivalent ) spies amongst our members!!

Rachel. I listed veggies and fruit that I feed to the Piggyfriends yesterday and as soon as I had posted I realised that I had omitted some favourites. The piggies were cross with me for leaving out Melon as it is a great favourite ( any variety seems to go down well ) and they also eat the rind ( so give it a good wash first ). Kale is also appreciated in winter when their grass is covered in snow and they all love broccoli or calabrese ( this is rich in iron too ). Some of them like pears and some like sweetcorn ( the husk as well as the cob ). There are lots of "weeds" that they love and many have medicinal properties too but I don't want anyone to pick anything of which they are unsure.
They also like beetroot ( both leaves and root ) but the colour affects what comes out the other end so don't be alarmed! They have peas and beans from the garden is season ( they don't eat the bean just the pod so when they have finished there is a neat pile of beans left ).

Not all piggies like every item but there is a great selection from which to choose.

Must go to work now and earn the cash to keep all of these piggies in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Regards and squeaks from Penny and the Piggyfriends.
