Amy- what a scary thing! To think that someone in Utah would seriously
  consider shipping "a pet" from St Louis . . . of course something's up!
  Sadly, it's also dangerous to advertise in our local papers or to even put
  notices up on bulletin boards. You get those nutcases and other people
  who do not care about animals . . . probably the best that might happen
  to them would be to become an entree for some larger, maybe reptile.
  I won't go into other situations. Just please be very careful. That's why I
  still have so many piggies at home - I will not let them go to a home
  that I'm not sure of. (also another very good reason to not let them breed,
  or at least with great care and limitations)  One thing that seems to
  work well here is to advertise a get-together. Call it whatever you like-
  Pignic, clinic, Piggie Tea, etc. After visiting with others you can get a
  feel for their intentions, as well as sharing important information. You
  can advertise these events by posting flyers where potential slaves might
  be - a pet supply or feed store, craft store, grocery - whereever YOU go!
  You can also post here, and on Guinea Pig Society, let everyone know
  what you have, and where, and sometimes we find homes that way.
