Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this list and a "fairly new" guinea pig owner (for about a year). I'm seeing a LOT of things out there pertaining to how common bladder stones are in guinea pigs. Well...my little guy is only 7 months old and has already had surgery for bladder stones. They were able to remove some "particles" in the bladder, but he still has some in his urethra that they couldn't get to due to the boars having such a small urethra. His is urinating, but it's bloody and he cries in pain and strains every time, which breaks my heart. The vet said there is nothing more they can do to treat him and I was just wondering if we should have him put to sleep or if there is anything else that we could try that has worked for any of you? They sent in a tissue biopsy from his bladder and there was no bacteria found....we are still waiting to hear back on the stone analysis. Is there anything to prevent this from happening? The vet thinks it's most likely hereditary since we haven't had him on alfafa...only timothy products.

Any input would be greatly appreciatecd!

God Bless!

Cathy
