Did I mention our girls are silly? A couple days ago as I was feeding,
R.J. had a 'situation' - in his travels, he inadvertantly found himself in
with Spanky, who startled him, so he hopped back out, only to run
into Roanie Stripe, so he panicked, thinking he was being attacked.
Silly boy. So I rescued him, but found it difficult to fill water bottles
while holding a pig, so I set him in with The Girls for a minute. I kept
an eye on them the entire time, so I knew they were safe. Not so
sure about his safety as it turned out. Silly Mable - as R.J. made
his howdies to the other girls, Mable pursued him as any boy would
go after a pretty girl! She followed him incessantly, mounting him
whenever he would stop. He only seemed mildly annoyed, not quite
sure what this silly girl was up to. But he seemed relieved when I
rescued him again and put him back in his own home.
Most of us have been lucky enough to watch our piggies popcorn,
some more wildly than others. But have you ever had them do this
in your lap? A day or so ago, I picked up both Teeny and Bitsy, two
of the tiny black piggie girls who came to us with their mom, Belle,
from Houston. When they arrived, Belle's milk had dried up, so I
gave them milk 2-3 times a day for 3 + weeks (Teeny, Bitsy and Fifi),
so they got very spoiled. Bitsy also came with an eye infection which
I had to treat - the vet was sure she would lose the eye, but once
again, as with Moose, the Chaparral Leaf treatment, along with lots
of prayer, worked and you can't tell now there was every anything
wrong. Anyway, I like to pick these girls up often to check them,
and I had these two girls sitting on a folded towel on my lap, checking
them, giving them a bit of 'juice' (water, basically, with some vitamins),
and they were really enjoying it. Then Teeny started going beserk,
and I realized she was trying to popcorn! There wasn't room, of course,
so she would end up on her back, wiggling and being silly. Good thing
I understand about this phenomenon, or I might have rushed her to
the vet, thinking she was having seizures! Maybe she'll do this again
and we can video it! hehehe
BTW - I hope I don't offend anyone by referring to these girls as the
little black girls from Texas. I was telling the kids about this yesterday,
and my daughter-in-law was laughing at me for it. It's just that we never
had any piggies this color (except the Peruvians) and they are just a
very different and beautifly color. The boys are very taken by their
beauty, but they seem to see things differently. A couple times I've
put little Lucy in with them, hoping to find her some friends she could
live with. Unfortunately, they were in such awe of her beautiful red hair
they wouldn't leave her along, sniffing her and nibbling her ears, til she
was worried what they might do next. Silly girls - they wanted to know
where she got her hair done, and how they got it such a beautiful red
color!
