[Gpdd] HEALTH: Syringe advice

Alge,

I have had to syringe food and meds to several piggies. I have found it is easiest for me if I sit with them facing the same direction as me (their backs against my belly), support their feet (with my legs, pillow, etc.) and hold one hand under their arm pits (front paws usually resting on my hand). I then reach around from behind and insert the syringe in one side of the mouth (I am right-handed so usually the right side).

Also, a good way to get good bacteria back into a piggie after antibiotics is to use poos from a healthy pig. I usually mix it into baby food or something that the pig will eat if I have to syringe the food in and if they are eating on their own, I make a paste and smear it onto some red leaf lettuce or other leafy veggie of choice.

I hope that this helps and I am glad that Mr. Cooders seems to be feeling better.

  Sarah
