Hi
I second the info given so far and would further add that some biscuits have
fats and proteins in addition to the refined carbs and sugar. These are all
absolutely poison to piggies. Their little digestive systems are set to
gobble grass and hay (low nutrient high fiber foods) round the clock to get
enough nutrients for healthful lives. A biscuit made with any denser
nutrients will quickly overwhelm their kidneys and livers leading to a
decline and way premature death. If you want to give treats to your piggies
give them the Vit C tabs from Oxbow, my Penny Gggles loved them and each
piggy would greedily line up and stick their little head into the jar and
take just one, except for Jetma who would grab as many as she could get
The concept of treats is a uniquely human concept where we assign taking
some unhealthful food as a treat as a "good thing", its not, either for us
or our fur babies. Pellets and hay, with non sugary greens, period. Other
denser foods only when the piggy is in decline, then it should be Critical
Care, pumpkin, unsweetened Old Fashioned Oatmeal, moistened with unsweetened
juice, period. The only exception should be that every pig should be
trained to the syringe in advance of being sick so that they look forward to
it and readily accept it when they need the syringe
I dont mean to be coming down on the writer of the biscuit post but just a
reminder to all of us since we humanize our little darlings to such an
wonderful extent whee have to restrain ourselves when it comes to piggy
nutrition.
Sandy
