Re Susi's post about piggies' ages, I have always thought of my 5 year olds as my pensioners ( senior citizens...whatever the word is in your respective countries!). As such, they are entitled to the extra cucumber allowance.
As the retirement age here in England is 65, I make it that 1 piggy year equals approximately 13 human years.
So a piggy making it to 7years old is, in human terms, 91. I have never been lucky enough to own an 8 year old, though I do know of one, who would be 104, which, though it does happen in humans, is very rare.
I have never seen this in any guinea pig book and would be interested to read other slave's ideas.
I have asked my Ash, who is 7 years 2 months what she thinks of this and she says that she is just pleased to get the extra cucumber. Of course, since most of my piggies arrive here without any history, I don't know all of their ages and have to guess, so more cucumber is probably handed out than should be.
Like you, Susi, I find the Messages about departed piggies very hard to read, but I do read the whole of the Digest to my little flock and we can commiserate with each other. As I am the only human here, I don't have to feel embarrassed about doing this, but I get some funny looks from my cockatiel, Merlin. The mice just carry on running round in their wheel regardless ( I also take in fancy mice from my local pet shelter.)
Sincere condolences to everyone who has recently lost a precious piggy and best wishes for a speedy recovery to everyone with a poorly little one.
Regards from Penny and the Piggyfriends.
