I have had 18 guinea pigs over the last 9 years and out of them, only two have had problems with stones. Kurlee was recently operated on to remove a bladder stone. I attribute such a low incidence of stones to the fact that the Munchees get timothy-based pellets (from Oxbow) as opposed to alfalfa based pellets. As for any connection to drinking less water, I don't know of any but who knows. Perhaps they need more water to properly digest the alfalfa pellets. Have you increased fruits and veggies? They are largely water and may affect how much water they need. I do know that all of the Munchees seem to drink different amounts of water.
