Megan,

A big welcome to Shelby, a comfort to you after the sad loss of Phylo, even if she does try to ecape.

I always quarantine new piggies coming here before adding them to one my groups but as you are not going to put Shelby in the same cage as Oscar that rule does not really apply here.

I would hope that the stringent infection controls that you already have in place would be sufficient but one of my books says that a piggy with pneumonia, even in the carrier state, should be kept isolated. See if your vet has any more advice but it would be a shame not to have more piggies in your life.

Dawna and family slaves,

Welcome to new piggy Crackers and welcome to the GPDD. I'm so pleased that you have decided to adopt piggies from a shelter.

Whether you take Crackers with you when you visit the shelter again really depends on her temperament and on the heat outside. I don't know where you live but a long hot car journey is not to be undertaken lightly. This is a different matter when you have to rush to the vets.

It would be nice for Crackers to be able to choose her own friend but personally, I would leave her at home and trust my own judgement. If you are new to piggy care, it is always easier to introduce a new baby ( or two ) rather than another adult but there are lots of slaves here with advice on how to make introductions. In my experience, most sows will readily adapt to a new friend.

Liz,

Daisy, Gulliver, Bramley, Barley and Rye Piggyfriend would like to extent a paw in welcome to Baisil, newest LAPS member. Daisy, being a large lady herself, is horrified at the idea of a diet and says that Baisil should tell her vet that she is not fat just big-boned.

We all look forward to seeing her pigture on the LAPS site, when Hamlet has the time to update it.

As it is seldom hot in England, I keep my piggy hair styling to a minimum. Long haired piggies just get a trim around the rear end and with my hairdressing skills this is just as well as even that is never level but it keeps them clean and tidy. I have had Alpaca piggies in the past, who needed more drastic "styling" but my current herd includes a Peruvian and a Texel both of whom would benefit from a Piggy Parlour in the neighbourhood.

Lots of love and wheeks to the Piggles. Every herd needs a good name.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.

P.S. I hope I haven't missed out any welcomes.
