I don't know if it is the same thing but I use wheat straw around my strawberries to protect them from mud splashes. The seeds in the straw always germinate and the resulting "grass" is greatly enjoyed by the Piggyfriends. I cut it short and let it regrow and they have several feeds from it during the season.
