While I have never had to fly with the Bug I was reading another site a few months ago where this couple flew from Japan to the West Coast with their fur baby. It involved a change of planes as well. What they did was take a picture of the piggy and taped it to the outside of the carrier with the piggy's name and destination printed on it as well as a copy of the health certificate.

At the airport they made lots of noise to anyone connected with the airlines e.g. gate, head stewardess etc. telling them they had a guinea pig that was flying baggage and to make VERY sure the compartment was pressurized and heated. (I believe there were also veiled threats of law suits if the piggy didn't arrive in good shape!)

In the carrier itself they placed plenty of towels for both the comfort of the piggy and to absorb the pee and poo that is so natural to our little ones. They also placed lots of wet veggies so there would be no problems with dehydration.

Other than the fact that the trip was stressful, the only time they were really concerned was when the piggy was sitting on the tarmac waiting to be transfered to the second plane but all went well as the piggy wasn't outside very long. The trip, though long, turned out well for both the couple and the piggy. The person doing the posting stressed that you need to be very noisy and pushy letting everyone know that there was a live animal aboard and it had better stay alive!

Sorry this is so long but I hope it helps ease your mind a bit.
