Hi all,
I don't post often here, I used to when I was just starting out with my guinea pigs but as the years go on I find myself with time only to read the posts of other wonderful piggie owners :)

I'm writing to tell you all that today I had to put my oldest guinea pig, Charlotte Ann, to sleep. Her food dish, hay stack, and water bottle had been untouched since Friday morning and her stomach was very swollen. She had been to the vet a few months ago for a lump on her cheek and belly, but was unable to be diagnosed and was still acting very healthy and happy, so I just let her be. Today, I had no idea what kind of pain she was in and couldn't watch her suffer anymore.

I took Charlotte in when a customer at Petco had dumped her off and said that her and her kids had no interest in her anymore and she just sat in the cage all day. I took her in, and she never got along with my other two girls, so while they had their cage in the den I put Charlotte in my room, she she was my special little buddy. She was the sweetest pig ever. Contrary to my other two, she loooooooved to get baths and would purr as she sat under the warm running water. She would lick my lips and all around my mouth. She would go crazy every time she heard a bag rustling for she assumed I was coming to refill her timothy hay.

The vet told me today that she very likely had a huge abdominal tumor and it would take a few more days for her to die naturally. (or, he gave me the option for surgery but since she is about 7 years old did not recommend it). I feel so bad, I have pictures of her all over my room, I grew used to listening to her drink from her water bottle every night as I fell asleep, and we had a bond that was closer than I have with my other two. I just hope that I gave her a good life.

Thank you all for reading. I just feel like one of the only ways I can keep her memory alive is to share her wonderful-ness with every other piggie lover out there. God Bless, I hope all of your piggie darlings out there are safe, happy, and healthy.

Love Katy and my sweetie pies Becky and Shelly
