Dear Wonderful GPDDers,
 
Alyssa has been so thrilled with all the wonderful cards, e-Cards, Care  
packages, and gifts. You are the most wonderful community ever! She and I plan  to 
thank you all individually soon, but right now please know that we are so  
grateful for all your prayers and loving thoughts.
 
Alyssa was at the hospital all day today having more X-rays and a  
consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. She is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow,  and then 
on March 22 she will have major surgery on her neck and shoulder. It  will be 
a long, painful recovery, with her arm in a sling, so please keep us in  your 
thoughts and prayers. 
 
Even with all the horrible medical procedures and pain, Alyssa is still  
Alyssa. She is now fostering a pair of 5-week old pit bull puppies as well as a  
sick, elderly cat! The puppies were abandoned downtown, and she is keeping them 
 alive until they are old enough to be taken to a Rescue. Twice this year she 
has  driven to Nebraska to take dogs (boxers and rottweilers) to another 
Rescue. Once  she drove through a terrible blizzard with a dog and had to stop in 
Iowa  overnight when she nearly slid off the road. 
 
She is very sad that her injury right now prevents her from her work at the  
Lawrence Humane Society. As she says, it is more than just a job. The many  
puppies and kittens and small animals really need her help to survive. She can't 
 wait until she is healed enough to get back to work. (The surgeon said,  
unfortunately, that it will be at least three months after surgery until she can  
go back.)
