 Lori,
I wouldn't worry that George is anti-social at this point.  Many piggies are skittish in new surroundings and I've often read that it can take some time before they are comfortable in a new home.  I know your daughter is impatient with George, but there's nothing to say that another pig you might pick out wouldn't have the same reaction.  It would be a shame to not give George more of a chance than one week in your home.  I'm sure that he will become more trusting as time passes. 
 
As for hiding in his pigloo with his food, it could be that his young life's experience has been that his food was taken from him, perhaps by overly aggressive siblings.  To this day, my Lily runs into her pigloo with green pepper, her ultimate favorite veggie!
