[Gpdd] MISC: Why a guinea pig?

I had never had experience with guinea pigs. My husband doesn't remember,
but his mom says they had them in an outside hutch when he was a child.

Our story starts on a cold March day in 1997. A friend of mine had just
bought a conure, a small parrot. Joe and I were in the mall shopping when I
saw a pet store and took him in to show him what kind of bird my friend
bought. While looking around we saw a box on the floor will these little
furry things running about. Oh, how cute, guinea pigs! I petted them and
went looking for a conure. When I went to find Joe he was walking around
the store with this little black guinea pig cuddled up in his arms. "What's
that?" "A guinea pig." "I see that. What are you doing with it?" "It is
sort of stuck to my arm." Laughing I said, "is it going home with us?" "I
think so." And Tribbles was our first.

A month later I thought Tribbles needed a GP friend because Joe and I were
at work all day. I found a sweet sow and named her Taffy. It took another
month to figure out Taffy was a he not a she! By that time Tribbles was
pregnant. I had found the GPDD by then and sent out a 'help, now what do I
do' message. With guidance from Penny, Tex and others, Joe and I made it
through Tribbles' pregnancy with out having a nervous breakdown! Tribbles
gave birth to four of the cutest little sows ever. We went from two to six
in four months!

To be continued....
