I had wanted a guinea pig through out most of my childhood but we had dogs and cats instead. (I even changed the words of popular songs to include guinea pig. The most famous was "Sittin' on the dock of they bay, watching the guinea pigs roll away." hee hee)

I had outgrown my fascination with guinea pigs and was looking into a rabbit or cat when I moved out on my own. I kept looking into it for years and then I got cancer. That stopped the search for a while. After I was cancer free for a couple of years, I started to get serious about a pet. I looked into rabbits but decided they were not for me.

One of the singers in the choral group I was in kept asking if anyone wanted guinea pigs as hers had just had a litter of 7! I reluctantly when to see them and was instantly hooked. I was going out of town for a few days so I couldn't take the 2 I'd picked out immediately. (I didn't know anything about them being social animals . I just couldn't take anything that small without a companion.) A week later, Tribble and Lokai came to live with me.

Since then, I've learned and improved their environment. I had to help Lokai (special needs pig) to the bridge nearly 2 years ago and Tribble has 2 new companions, Zathras and Leela. At nearly 5 years old, Tribble is still the boss pig. Knowing that she's an old lady, I cherish every minute I have with her even more now than I did earlier.

I don't know what I'd do without my fur babies!
