I initially started with hamsters and was devastated when they passed on. One day my husband was in our local pet shop and saw 2 pigs in a cage. He came home very excited and dragged me back to the pet shop. I instantly fell in love..There she was....my Checkers. She was hiding in her wood house and very skittish but I fell in love. We brought her home.

She was miserable! It turns out that 2 weeks later, she gave birth to 2 babies. One boy and one girl. I gave the boy to my friend and kept Rusti Mae.

Checkie has trained me well. She's VERY opinionated. Hates to be held! Will kick me everytime I try to pick her up and then will bite hard when I hold her. Will move her food bowl a half an inch from where I place it just because. When she's out with the others, she will snap at the girls. But I love her and know that she's the Queen and rules the house.

Since Checkie's arrival, we rescued 2 boys (Bertie and Ernie) both of which passed last month. Rusti Mae passed last year from Leukemia. We bought Sundai as a cagemate for Checkie when Rusti died but that hasn't worked out. Sundai gave birth to 3 babies and we decided to keep the 3 since Bert and Ernie's unexpected passing.

These little ones are just so special and I can't see my life without them. They are quite mischievous and I have tons of funny stories about each. I wouldn't trade them for the world. I will even deal with the chewed coffee table, entertainment center, recliner and couch.
