[Gpdd] Health: Story pigs and Ivermectin

Dear Story Piggies,
     You're under seige by mites, too, huh? Three and even two wheeeks ago I 
was a total mess -- the fur was rubbed off of both my sides from scratching 
and biting at the itchy places. I also used my sipper bottle spouts to help me 
to scratch even more. I was in such misery. Mites are wicked little blighters. 
We used neem oil that one of my best buddies sent to me then Alge added some 
kind of salve to sooth my skin. She was gong to add an antibacterial or 
antibiotic ointment but instead took me to the vet on a Friday (2 wheeeks ago). Youse 
guys knowz how much worse things get over a weekend when there's no help 
about.
     Oh, before I forget, earlier (maybe a wheeek and a half earlier) she had 
given me a bit of Ivermectin paste as well-- an oral dose. She breaks the bud 
off a q-tip and covers the end with the Ivermectin which she buyz at the feed 
store. The amount is definitely smaller than a pea. She just pops it into my 
mouth and I have to swallow it and lick it off my lips. Her mistake was that 
she didn't repeat it a week or two later.
     So off we went to the vet. I don't wantz to go back there for a long 
long time. He gave me a shot of Ivermectin -- it hurt, too! I was mad at my mommy 
for not giving me more of the paste within a wheek or two from the first 
dose, then I wouldn't have had to have seen the vet. The vet said 3 doses of 
Ivermectin, each 2 wheeeks apart. 
     He sent syringes with liquid Ivermectin in them and it's a relatively 
very small amount. I had the first one yesterday then in two wheeks I take the 
last one. I was anticipating my yummy antibiotic when I saw the syringe 
(yeah...I'd developed a bacterial skin infection from all the scratching and biting. 
My skin looked terrible and I was going bald.) Then I had to take oral 
med-cine twice a day for the bacterial infection. I fought it at first but then 
discovered that it tasted pretty good.
     So that's why I so easily took the small amouny of liquid Ivermectin -- 
she snookered me! She followed right up with the antibiotic tho so that was 
cool.
     My fur is growing back now and I feel so much better. I still get to 
sleep with a cloth covering over my pine litter now 'cause when I had that salve 
on me, the pine stuck to me and I looked like a hedge hog.
     This does not answer your question about the Ivermectin behind your 
ears. I know that Frontline Plus for cats (1 drop behind ear) and Revolution are 
the same way but I DON'T know how how they work on mites. Mites are mean!
     Don't give up tho -- they can be cured. If Chester gets them momma is 
going to used the paste in 3 doses, 2 wheeeks apart.
     Momma Alge also actually ASKED the vet to give me a vitamine C shot to 
make sure my immune system was in super good shape. I really blasted their ears 
with my loud wheeeks! I wanted them to know that they were dealing with a 
piggy to be reckoned with. But gee, it did hurt.
