[Gpdd] Rainbow Bridge: My Beautiful Beatrice is gone

My dear Beatrice has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. She was about 7 3/4 years old. We adopted her and her sister Zoree (also passed on) from the Denver Dumb Friends League one Thanksgiving when we felt the need for more animals. Bea and Zor were former classroom pets. Beatrice had the classic "white mop" look and her hair, when left uncut, would grow to seven inches long. I usually kept it clipped short in the summer which made her look very cute and pouffy and showed off her gray-black eyes. Beatrice had gotten very frail lately and would not take food or medicine this morning, so we knew she was about to make her journey.

Beatrice was timid and gentle. She did not bite, but would give a little nip if you held her facing the wrong way or offered her a food which displeased her. She would wheek indignantly if she was not the first one fed in the morning. When happy, she had a lovely, bubbling purr. My favorite memory of her was a day when I was walking around the yard, carrying her, and stopped to speak to a neighbor. I asked him if he had every met Beatrice. "But who is Beatrice?" he asked. "This is Beatrice," I said, holding Bea up. "But WHAT is Beatrice?" he gasped. I told him Beatrice was my pet guinea pig and he laughed delightedly over the mass of white hair with the solemn eyes gazing at him. I loved all of our guinea pigs, but I was most attached to Bea. She was a contented little spinster. She enjoyed her hutch and liked to be carried to the garden to pick fresh greens.

Bea, we will miss you. I look forward to seeing you again at the Bridge one day. With love from Kathy (and Millie bloodhound, Shaggy cat and guinea pigs Ginger and Pookah-Darryl, plus many, many more beloved friends at the Rainbow Bridge)
