Dear Digest members, thanks so much to all of you who wrote kind notes of condolence about my Beatrice. I think she had a nice life with us, with lots of treats from the garden. She had a spacious hutch and a little table my husband built for her and was always served first.

When I think of her, though, I picture her tucking herself into the crook of my arm whenever my husband came into the room. He was always kind and gentle with her, but he once gave her a kiss when he had beer breath and she never forgot. She always acted like a Victorian lady encountering a drunkard, retreating behind her veil of hair. She and her sister Zoree always looked so cute together. Zoree had very thick short hair, all white except for a round brown patch on her rump, like a little girl who sat in a puddle. I hope they get along at the Bridge, as they used to squabble a bit.

Pookie and Ginger are now next-hutch neighbors and it is very cute to see Pookie up on his shelf, trying to get a glimpse of the red-haired girl next door. --Kathy S
