Regarding the 'red bumps':

I too get these little red bumps when I hold my piggies. It is a mild 
allergic reaction- and I find it goes away very quickly if I wash the 
affected parts (usually my arms and neck) with plain soap and water. The 
suggestions Rayna made also work very well- wearing long sleeves when 
handling them and keeping them on a towel in your lap.  Such a small price 
to pay for the joy they give...
