[Gpdd] Health: fleas

Dear Alge

I have a cat who currently has fleas. I do not treat her with anything, as
I had a problem with one of my other cats (who has now passed away), which I
attribute to the flea treatment he was given.

Anyway, I saw a poster up in our vets that says that only 5% of the fleas
will be on your cat/dog, "the rest are in your home". So I always hoover
each and everyday with the hoover on top suction, and this keeps it well
under control -- please note: I am not suggesting for one moment that you
don't do this! I am only saying what I do myself.

I had read that it is not possible for a guinea pig to get cat or dogs fleas
because their skin is too thick for the fleas to bite. Whether this is true
or not, I am not able to say, but I do know that injections for guinea pigs
are not pleasant for this reason. I have never noticed my two guinea pigs
with fleas from our cat (and she does like to sleep ontop of the lid of
their run! -- she is actually quite protective of them.

Hope you are able to resolve the problem.

Carole
