Rayna,
Can i ask some questions? Is shakira hurting carmen when she barbers her?
Because in that case i can totally understand that you want to seperate
them. Or are your pigs showpigs? (are they long haired btw? because if she's
short haired i agree that it is not that normal) But if this is not the case
there are some other options that you might want to consider first.
My yaya is a barber and she makes poor jan look eh...rather eighties (with a
big mullet and short on top). She doesn't chew on suus since she is short
haired. Although it is impossible to stop her there are some things that
help. Yaya mostly barbers when she's bored. I solve that by offerering
things to chew on and distracting her. A really popular device for example
is the hay silo: http://xs314.xs.to/xs314/07144/HaySilo.jpg
she loves shredding the cardboard box and the hay inside is an extra
stimulation to chew on. I also change their toys every now and then so that
their environment stays interesting. Another thing i do is shave Jan. I
admit, not very attractive, but this makes him much less interesting.(poor
jan, he loves being barbered, i think it is a social activity) Jan doesn't
mind the shaving. (I do regret it a bit, i like long haired piggies so much)
Another thing you can do is offer a variety of hay. there are herbal hays (i
hope i translate this correctly) for example, with chammomile etc.
Btw, did the vet check shakira as well? Some pigs chew hair when they are in
pain.
Big hug for you pigs, i hope you don't mind my butting in.
Janneke
