  Yes, Salmonella can kill quite rapidly. There are several types of bacteria that can cause "bacterial enteritis" and Salmonella is one of them. Acute death can occur, sometimes without any of the usual clinical signs (lethargy, weakness, going off their feed, weight loss, diarrhea). These bacteria can also make humans sick.
