What I do with long hairs is I keep their hair trimmed short, so my Silkie
looks almost like an American and my Peruvian looks like an Aby.  I just use
an electric hair trimmer, using the 1/2" guide for the body and 1/4" guide
for the back and underside.  I trim them every couple months.

I figure since mine are just pets, they don't need all that extra hair
bothering them.  In fact, I think they like it, not being weighed down by
all that hair.

For years I refused to get a long haired piggie, but when I saw Grace (I had
a feeling she was a Silkie, though she was just a tiny baby with short
hair), there was something that said I had to have her.  And sure enough,
that hair grew ... and sure enough, she's a cuddler and a kisser.

Then a little over a year after that, a pet store worker said, "There's this
other little girl in this other pen, that's a real cutie."  I said, "Don't
bring me that Peruvian (also a tiny baby, but she screamed Peruvian)."
Well, she put the cute, little Peruvian in my hands, and Liberty came home
with us.  She's a fiesty little one, but loves to settle in and cuddle.
