Kelly,
     The trick to geting the quick to retract (especially when you can't see) 
is to trim the smallest amount of nail -- it becomes a gradual process -- I'd 
guess you might try every 2 wheeks and little by little the quick retracts. 
Wilson had mostly black nails and so do Chester and Charlie. I trust that you 
have a steady hand!
