Hi,
I don't know if you have a piggy pouch, i.e., cavy cozy, but my older pigs -- 
the ones now at the Bridge -- used to climb into their piggy pouches when I 
I'd lower the pouches for them to climb into.   All of us were less 
traumatized!
My younger piggies often take refuge in their cuddle cup, and while taking 
care that no one fall, I swoop them up, set them on the couch and strangely none 
have ever tried to run away from "the hand" on the sofa.
