[Gpdd] Health: Neem Oil

Dear all

I just wanted to pass on something that Vedra at Cambridge Cavy Trust said
to me once regarding essential oils, such as neem oil.

I was asking Vedra with regard to using a mite shampoo that contained
essential oils, and she said she doesn't use these for the purpose of
treating mites anymore because, if the guinea pigs have been scratching
themselves a lot -- as invariably happens when they have mites -- they can
create open wounds.  She said if the essential oils get into these open
wounds, the essential oils can then enter a guinea pigs blood stream.  Her
concern was the effect this could have on the vascular system of a guinea
pig, and so she therefore steered me clear of using a shampoo with essential
oils in it for the purposes of treating a guinea pig suffering from skin
mites.

Hope this maybe of help to anyone who has piggies suffering with this prob
at the moment, or for those wishing to make a note of it for future times.
