Hello, I got a new addition today. Some people may remember that I lost Crackles, my female dalmatian, earlier this year. Since then I've been on the lookout for a dalmatian/roan guinea pig - they've always been one of my favourites. We're cutting down on our numbers from a few years ago, we used to have over 40 guinea pigs at one time but were down to 9 before Crackles left us. I've been very tempted by some I've seen, particularly one older tricolour I saw a few weeks ago, but I'd made up my mind that the only guinea pig I wanted was either a dalmatian or a roan - to be honest they're so similar sometimes that it can be difficult to tell the difference. I made up my mind that I really mustn't be tempted by anything else- I want to keep my numbers down now so I mustn't keep giving in. I saw some young guinea pigs last weekend and again was tempted, but managed to stop myself. I said to mum at the time that the only guinea pig I really wanted now was a dalmatian or r!
oan and, whenever I saw one, I'd be getting it. Today I went into one of our local shops - one of the ones I trust and go to regularly. What did I see there? Yes, a little tiny black ans white fur ball running around in one of the runs, a little dalmatian/roan. As I said, I find it quite difficult to tell the difference between the two sometimes, so I'm not exactly sure whether he'd be classed as a dalmatian or a roan, but I don't really care anyway. As soon as I held him, I knew he was coming home with me. His head markings are almost exactly the same as Crackles, black either side with white down the middle. His body is a bit more marked than she was, it's marked all over like her but along the middle of his back he's got a splotch of really dark flecks. He's a bit nervous at the moment, but he's only about 6 weeks old so that's to be expected. I'm looking forward to getting to know him and what his personality is going to be. So, we're back up to 9 again. Hopefu!
lly it'll stay that way for a good while - I don't want any more losse
s this year!
