Carly,

Welcome to your new piggy, Dharma. As far as I am concerned, a "free to a good home" piggy counts as a rescue. I have, in the past, collected such piggies from some truly appalling conditions and I believe that the piggies thought that they had been rescued. Anything that gives a piggy a better life is OK by me. Congratulations for taking her home, where she will be loved and cared for as every piggy deserves.

Re your nearly skinny pig. Years ago, my Posy suffered from ovarian cysts and lost a lot of her coat down both sides of her body - not quite as drastic as your Aeva but her coat was very thin. She was not a candidate for surgery and, at that time, my vet could offer no other treatment, not even draining the cysts. If the HCG hormone treatment, which shrinks the cysts, had been available then, I think that I would have given this a try, although it is only a temporary measure. Now that I have my rodentologist, who can disperse these cysts when they are small without the need for surgery, I do not have to worry about it happening again.

Lots of hugs to your new babe. She must be so pleased to be away from her previous "home".

Penny and the Piggyfriends, who all know what it is like to be rescued in one form or another.
