I have not posted in a while, but would like to share that Alf (aka McSteamy) has passed over the rainbow bridge. He was a proud member of the LAPS Society and lived up to all the requirements to be a part of it. Within 48 hours of showing signs of labored breathing, he passed away in my arms. I had taken him to the vet and he was on medication, which the other four are also on. I know he is in a much better place now and no longer suffering. I just hope my others will be okay.

I do want to give everyone a heads up. If your dog gets kennel cough or is exposed, they can transfer it to your furbabies. It isn't actually kennel cough, but something in the virus will harm guinea pigs. When I got my puppy last year, he had had kennel cough, within 4 weeks of bringing him home, Chip was in the hospital for 10 days and the other two started showing signs and were on medication for 10 days. Tomy was exposed to kennel cough again at his day care provider, he didn't actually get it, but brought it home. And again, 3-4 weeks later, Alf quit eating and had labored breathing. So since this happened last year, my vet gave me medication for the other ones before they started showing signs of distress. So far our paws are crossed and the other four are doing great. LIke I said, I am not saying they have kennel cough, but something with the virus (?) will get your piggies sick. Any signs of labored breathing, you need to go to the vet right away.
